Here’s the question: are you ready to turn numbers into a story of success once again this year?
We are delighted to announce that 'The 9th Benedict Goh Malaysia Schools Mathematics Championship 2026' has officially returned. Organised by Benedict Goh Education & Technology Company, this prestigious championship will take place from 1st to 5th July 2026, offering students across Malaysia a grand stage to showcase their mathematical brilliance, connect with fellow problem-solvers, and earn recognition that may open doors for years to come.
Over the years, the championship has grown into a leading nationwide platform that bridges the gap between classroom learning and competitive excellence. It invites students from every corner of Malaysia to demonstrate their ingenuity, analytical thinking, and mathematical problem-solving abilities on a prestigious arena.
Event Details
The championship will be conducted through two flexible competition modes, ensuring that every student can participate regardless of circumstances:
- Paper-Based Mode (1st – 3rd July 2026): Participants will complete a written test at their respective schools under the supervision of teachers and submit their answers online.
- Fully Online Mode (4th – 5th July 2026): Participants will complete the competition entirely from home or a suitable venue, requiring a device (such as a laptop computer) and an internet connection. Primary division students compete on 4th July (Saturday), while secondary division students compete on 5th July (Sunday), each within a designated time window.
Regardless of the selected mode, the contest format remains the same. Participants will answer 30 multiple-choice questions within 1 hour and 30 minutes. Questions are divided into three sections with increasing levels of difficulty:
- Section A: Easy (3 marks each)
- Section B: Moderate (4 marks each)
- Section C: Hard (5 marks each)
The maximum score is 120 marks, and no marks will be deducted for incorrect answers.
To ensure accessibility for students from diverse backgrounds, the contest questions will be available in English, Malay Language, and Simplified Chinese.
Why Should You Join?
The benefits of participating in the championship extend far beyond the day of the contest. By taking part, students will gain valuable opportunities to:
- Recognition and Achievement: Every participant receives a printed certificate, either a Certificate of Achievement (70 marks and above) or a Certificate of Participation. Top performers earn Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Consolation Medals. Outstanding secondary school students can even be awarded prestigious titles such as the Malaysia National Grandmaster of Mathematics (MY-NGMM), Malaysia National Master of Mathematics (MY-NMM), or Malaysia National Candidate Master of Mathematics (MY-NCMM). These honours carry strong value in further study and scholarship applications.
- Skill Development: The championship challenges students to think critically, apply mathematical concepts creatively, and strengthen their higher-order thinking skills. All within a time-pressured environment that mirrors real examination conditions.
- Exam Preparation: With questions aligned to the school mathematics curriculum, the championship serves as an excellent preparation platform for school and public examinations, helping students build both confidence and competence.
- Community and Camaraderie: Beyond medals and certificates, the Benedict Goh Malaysia Schools Mathematics Championship connects like-minded students from every corner of Malaysia. Results and detailed rankings are published on the official website, allowing participants to benchmark themselves against peers from different regions across the country.

A Vision for Excellence and Inclusivity
The Benedict Goh Malaysia Schools Mathematics Championship is more than just a contest. It is a celebration of the beauty of mathematics.
At its core, the championship is driven by a mission to ignite a lifelong passion for mathematics among young learners.
Now in its ninth year, the championship has earned a reputation as one of the most celebrated and accessible mathematics competitions in Malaysia. What sets it apart is its strong commitment to inclusivity.
All primary school students (Year 1 to Year 6), secondary school students (Form 1 to Form 5), and pre-university students (Form 6 and equivalents) studying in Malaysia are eligible to participate. This includes students from government schools, private schools, international schools, matriculation colleges, and even home-schooled students.
Registrations from tuition centres and surrogate participants are also welcomed.
Importantly, the championship syllabus is closely aligned with the Malaysian school mathematics curriculum. This means students do not require specialised training or advanced mathematical knowledge to participate. Instead, the competition serves as a natural extension of what they already learn in school—an opportunity to apply their knowledge, sharpen their problem-solving skills, and discover their full potential.
Prestigious Awards and Special Titles
The championship is renowned for its generous and prestigious award system. Based on the 2026 grading scale, students are recognized for their excellence through the following tiers:
- Gold Award: 105–120 marks (Gold Medal + Certificate)
- Silver Award: 90–104 marks (Silver Medal + Certificate)
- Bronze Award: 80–89 marks (Bronze Medal + Certificate)
- Consolation Award: 70–79 marks (Consolation Medal + Certificate)
- Participation Award: 0–69 marks (Certificate of Participation)
For our secondary school and pre-university participants, the stakes are even higher. The championship offers Special Titles of Mathematics, which are among the highest honours in the country for young mathematicians. Titles include the Malaysia National Grandmaster of Mathematics (MY-NGMM), the Malaysia National Master of Mathematics (MY-NMM), and the Malaysia National Candidate Master of Mathematics (MY-NCMM). These titles are awarded based on rigorous criteria, including achieving near-perfect scores and excelling in the difficult Section C questions.
A Call to Action for Schools and Parents
Education is not just about what is found in textbooks; it is about the challenges we choose to accept.
'The 9th Benedict Goh Malaysia Schools Mathematics Championship 2026' is that challenge. It is an opportunity for schools to showcase their academic strength and for students to prove that their potential is limitless.
We encourage all teachers to promote this event during school assemblies and through parent-teacher communication channels. Let’s work together to nurture the next generation of Malaysian innovators, scientists, and problem-solvers.
